★ Collector Specimen

One of this season's highlighted specimens. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact plant you receive.

Anthurium forgetii × (Carla × AOS). A variegated dark velvet cross of elite lineage — forgetii's rounded, silver-veined blade over the depth of carlablackiae and Ace of Spades. A clone off the mother, carrying strong, well-balanced variegation.

The cross

Anthurium forgetii (Colombia) is the round-leaf velvet — near-circular dark blades with no basal lobes, crossed by bright silver-white veins, on a compact plant. It lends shape, silver veining and refinement.

The pollen side is a heavy, elite pairing: Anthurium carlablackiae — the Guna Yala (Panama) endemic, one of the darkest, most substantial velvets in cultivation — crossed with 'Ace of Spades', the spade-shaped near-black velvet with pale veining. Together they bring serious depth, substance and dark tone.

Crossing forgetii onto that Carla × AOS base marries forgetii's rounded silhouette and silver veining with real velvet weight — and this plant carries variegation on top: strong, well-balanced sectors with good colour and distribution. Variegation is guaranteed on this clone; the exact pattern, colour and balance shift leaf to leaf as it grows, so every new leaf is its own.

This specimen

  • Stage: juvenile, clone from the mother (shown in the final photo)
  • Leaves: 4, with the 4th unfurling now
  • Roots: Strong, well-established
  • Variegation: High — great colour and balance across current growth. Guaranteed; pattern varies leaf to leaf
  • Pot: 7cm midi SIPS (self-watering)
  • Included: Inner pot
  • Notes: Acclimated and ready to ship. Variegated velvet leans on its green — for experienced growers.

One clone. Photographed as received. No restock.

Care, briefly

  • Light: Bright indirect, and generous — the green carries the variegation and light keeps the colour. Direct sun scorches the pale sectors.
  • Water: Ships in a self-watering (SIPS) pot — keep the reservoir topped and let the plant draw what it needs. Read the plant, not the calendar: don't let the wick run bone-dry, and don't let the crown sit wet.
  • Warmth: 20–25°C and stable — with velvet Anthuriums, steady warmth matters more than chasing humidity. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
  • Humidity: 60%+ helps a variegated velvet, but consistent warmth and airflow matter more.
  • Roots: Airy, chunky epiphytic mix around the roots — the SIPS handles the moisture, the roots still need to breathe.
  • Pace: New leaves emerge dark and coppery and harden over a couple of weeks. A variegated clone of this lineage is a slow, deliberate grower — give it time.
