The plant

Alocasia wentii is the workhorse of the collector Alocasias: upright, strong-stemmed, with thick deep-green leaves that flash coppery bronze underneath when backlit. It grows faster and forgives more than most of the genus.

That vigour is exactly why the pink form is worth having. Most variegated Alocasia stall at a few small leaves. Wentii keeps building — so the variegation lands on a plant that actually gains size and presence. It is the rarest combination in variegated Alocasia and it is what this one is priced on.

Care, briefly

• Light: Bright indirect, the brightest of the three pink Alocasias here. Pink tissue holds better with strong light — but still no direct sun.
• Water: Let the top third dry, then water thoroughly. Wentii drinks more than a jewel Alocasia, but variegated tissue still uses less — go by weight, not schedule.
• Humidity: 55%+. More tolerant of room air than reginula.
• Mix: Airy and fast-draining — bark, perlite, a little coco.
• Warmth: 20–27°C. Nothing below 15°C.
• Watch: Spider mites on the leaf underside. Check weekly in dry rooms.
• Pace: The fastest grower of the pink Alocasias. Pot up as it fills — it will ask for it.
