Alocasia 'Portora' Aurea (Variegated)
★ Collector Specimen
One of this season's highlighted specimens. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact plant you receive.
Alocasia 'Portora' Aurea. The golden-variegated form of a big, fast, architectural hybrid — bold wavy-edged arrow leaves broken with gold. This is a high-grade variegated specimen.
The cultivar
Alocasia 'Portora' (also sold as 'Portodora') is a hybrid of Alocasia portei and Alocasia odora — a vigorous, upright grower that builds into a large, architectural plant with glossy, wavy-edged arrow leaves on sturdy stems. One of the easier, faster Alocasias once established.
The 'Aurea' is the golden-variegated form — yellow-to-gold sectoring over the green blade, chlorophyll-reduced and irregular, different on every leaf. The green still carries the plant, so the gold is the feature and the variegation to protect.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect, and generous — light keeps the gold clean and the plant compact. Direct sun scorches the pale sectors.
- Water: A thirsty, fast grower — keep evenly moist in active growth, letting the top of the mix begin to dry between waterings. Never waterlogged.
- Humidity: 60%+. Golden edges brown fast in dry air.
- Mix: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix — airy at the roots.
- Warmth: 18–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: Fast and vigorous for an Alocasia — expect it to size up quickly and want potting on.
