Anthurium (Papillilaminum × Crystallinum) × Portillae — Seedling
★ Collector Seedling · Grow-Out Genetics
A green baby from variegated mothers — bought for the genetics it carries, not the leaf it has today.
Anthurium (Papillilaminum × Crystallinum) × Portillae (Open). A velvet-line seedling grown from variegated mothers — currently green, with two to three leaves, and all the potential ahead of it.
Mother plants on last 2 photos.
Portillae open is pollen parent
The cross
The seed side, papillilaminum × crystallinum, is a dark velvet leaf with crystalline silver veining and red-flushing new growth. The pollen side is Portillae (open-pollinated) — a velvet Anthurium adding its own form to the mix. Open pollination means each seedling is a genuine roll of the dice, so no two grow out quite alike.
What you're buying
This is not a variegated plant. It is green right now, with two to three leaves. But the seed comes from variegated mothers, so it carries the kind of potential that makes a seedling like this exciting for collectors who enjoy growing out rare genetics from the very start. No promises on how it turns out — that's the whole point of a grow-out.
This seedling
- Stage: seedling
- Leaves: 2–3, currently green
- Parentage: From variegated mothers — carries grow-out potential
- Pot: 5cm
- Included: Inner pot
- Notes: Acclimated and ready to ship. Seedlings vary slightly in size, leaf shape and appearance — each is grown from seed and selected for healthy growth.
Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect — never direct, which scorches young velvet leaves.
- Water: Lightly and evenly moist — never wet. A young seedling is sensitive to wet feet; keep water off the leaves.
- Humidity: 65%+. Stable, high humidity helps a seedling push clean new leaves.
- Mix: Airy, chunky epiphytic mix — bark, perlite and charcoal — fast-draining.
- Warmth: 20–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: It's a baby — give it stable conditions and let it build leaf count. Whatever it carries reveals itself as it grows.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
