Anthurium (Red Crystallinum × self) × Michelle
★ Birthday Anthurium · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted specimens. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact plant you receive.
Anthurium (Red Crystallinum × self) × Michelle. A variegated velvet seedling from two heavyweight red lines — crystalline silver-and-pink veining, fire-red emergent leaves, and irregular variegation. One leaf, one active growth point, plenty ahead of it.
The cross
The seed side is a selfed red crystallinum — Anthurium crystallinum's velvet, rounded, crystalline silver-veined leaf, selected for vivid red-to-burgundy emergent growth. The pollen side is 'Michelle' (DocBlock), an award-winning velvet hybrid known for dark burgundy-purple new leaves, deep green maturity, and bright white-and-pink venation.
Together they make a velvet-leaf seedling built for colour: red-flushing new growth, high-contrast white and pink veins, and — on this plant — irregular variegation over the blade. Seed-grown, so it is one of a kind; variegated velvet is also more delicate, leaning on its green to grow.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect — never direct, which marks the velvet and scorches the variegation. Good light keeps the variegation clean and growth coming.
- Water: Lightly and evenly moist — never wet — letting the surface just dry between waterings. A young single-leaf plant is sensitive to wet feet; keep water off the velvet.
- Humidity: 65%+. A young variegated seedling especially wants stable, high humidity to push its next leaf cleanly.
- Mix: Airy, chunky epiphytic mix — bark, perlite and charcoal — fast-draining.
- Warmth: 20–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: The active growth point means it is set to push — but it is a seedling, so give it time and stability to build leaf count and size.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
