Alocasia Cuprea Gold | Variegated, 3 Leaves, Tissue Culture Grown
Every figure here describes the specimen in the photographs as it is today, not the mother plant.
★ Collector Specimen · One Plant
The exact plant photographed. Tissue culture grown, variegation visible on current growth.
Alocasia Cuprea Gold. Three leaves, good visible variegation, and a newest leaf that is the best one on the plant. Tissue culture grown, so it comes to you clean.
The plant
Cuprea is the metallic one: thick, rounded blades with a hammered surface that throws copper and bronze depending on the light, and dark venation pressed into the leaf. It is one of the few Alocasia that looks manufactured rather than grown.
The gold form adds warm yellow sectoring to that metallic base. The colour deepens as each leaf hardens, so a new leaf will often open paler and burn in over the following weeks. That is the plant working as intended, not a fault.
This specimen
- Leaves: 3, newest leaf the strongest
- Variegation: Good and clearly visible
- Roots: Good
- Origin: Tissue culture grown
- Included: Inner pot
- Availability: One plant, photographed as received
Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect, never direct. Good light is what pulls the colour in on each new leaf; low light leaves it pale.
- Water: Evenly moist, never wet. Cuprea is sensitive to soggy mix.
- Warmth: 20 to 26°C and stable. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Mix: Airy, chunky and fast draining. Semi hydro suits this species well.
- Pace: Give each new leaf a few weeks to harden and colour up before judging it. Alocasia trade leaves as they settle, which is normal.
