The specimen

Nearly black, and heavily textured.

Megatron and Red Vein Dark Phoenix are both dark velvet selections, and crossing them concentrates that rather than diluting it. The leaf is nearly black, heavily textured, with fine red venation tracing across it.

She does carry variegation, but not on every leaf. The specimen photographed here pushed a solid emergence, which is worth knowing before you take a clone from her: expression varies leaf to leaf on this mother.

Under raking light the surface reads closer to fabric than to foliage. Photographs rarely do it justice.

What is behind her

Where each trait comes from.

A cross is not a blend. Each parent decides different things, and knowing which one is responsible for what tells you a great deal about how a clone from her will grow out.

Named hybrid

Megatron

A dark velvet hybrid known for surface texture rather than colour alone. The leaf is heavily bullate, meaning the tissue puckers between the veins, and under raking light it reads more like fabric than foliage. Colour sits at the very dark end, and venation is fine rather than bold. It is a texture parent, and texture is the trait people underestimate until they see a leaf in person. Photographs consistently fail to capture it. Expect depth, a tactile surface, and a plant that rewards being looked at from an angle rather than straight on.

Selection · Dark Phoenix line

Red Vein Dark Phoenix

Usually written RVDP, and it is the red-veined selection out of the Dark Phoenix line rather than a separate hybrid. Dark Phoenix is a dark papillilaminum line, widely stated as papillilaminum crossed with dressleri, and RVDP is the individual selected for the contrast between a near-black blade and fine copper to red venation. That warm venation is unusual in a group where veins are normally silver or white. New leaves emerge distinctly coppery and darken over two to three weeks, so the contrast peaks just after a leaf opens. It passes the red venation on reliably and deepens the base colour of whatever it meets. Expect warm venation on a cold dark ground, and a plant worth watching while it hardens rather than only when it is settled.

The photograph is not an illustration of what your plant might become. It is the specification.

What a clone from this mother is

Not a seedling. Not a cross. The same plant.

  • Every specimen released under Tron is a rooted clone taken from the plant on this page. No seed. No variation lottery.
  • Genetically identical. Same variegation genetics, same leaf architecture, same growth habit.
  • What you see above is what yours becomes.
  • Grown in Sweden from propagation onward. No import shock between her and your plant.

All variegated aroids carry long-term reversion risk, and no grower can honestly promise otherwise. What you get is her exact genetics and her documented track record, not a guarantee about every future leaf.
