The specimen

Warm light bronze. Cool light blue.

Blue Papi is a papillilaminum selection with a cool cast to the leaf rather than the usual warm green or black.

Crossed onto Black Venom, that cool tone sits over a very dark base. In practice she reads bronze to olive in warm light and shifts noticeably blue in cooler light.

Heavy texture, strong pale venation, and a broad rounded blade.

What is behind her

Where each trait comes from.

A cross is not a blend. Each parent decides different things, and knowing which one is responsible for what tells you a great deal about how a clone from her will grow out.

Named hybrid

Black Venom

A dark velvet hybrid used as a colour foundation. It brings a dense, even near-black surface with heavy texture, and it does that consistently enough that breeders reach for it when they want darkness without introducing a strong leaf shape. Venation is fine and pale, understated against the ground colour. It is a stable, forgiving parent by the standards of this group. In a cross it sets the base tone and leaves the outline to the other side. Expect the ground colour to come from here and the shape to come from somewhere else.

Selection of papillilaminum

Blue Papi

A papillilaminum selection with a cool cast to the leaf rather than the usual warm green or flat black. The effect is a blue to steel undertone that becomes obvious in cooler light and disappears under warm bulbs, which is why photographs of it vary so wildly between sellers. Leaf shape and substance follow the species, elongated and thick. In a cross it shifts the tone of the offspring without changing its architecture. Expect a colour that behaves differently depending on where the plant sits, and judge it in daylight rather than under a grow light.

The photograph is not an illustration of what your plant might become. It is the specification.

What a clone from this mother is

Not a seedling. Not a cross. The same plant.

  • Every specimen released under Indigo is a rooted clone taken from the plant on this page. No seed. No variation lottery.
  • Genetically identical. Same variegation genetics, same leaf architecture, same growth habit.
  • What you see above is what yours becomes.
  • Grown in Sweden from propagation onward. No import shock between her and your plant.

All variegated aroids carry long-term reversion risk, and no grower can honestly promise otherwise. What you get is her exact genetics and her documented track record, not a guarantee about every future leaf.

Released from this mother

She is not always in propagation. When a clone is ready it is listed here first.
