A LETTER FROM TESS · YEAR 1
JUNE 2026 ·

One year, looking back.

One year ago, I took Plant.ess from a passion project into a real business.

Like many others, my plant journey started during Covid. What began as curiosity quickly became collecting, learning, asking questions, making mistakes, being scammed, and slowly finding my place in the rare plant world. But this past year has been the real turning point.

When my previous job closed, I made the decision to go all in.

Plant.ess became my full-time business, and with that came a very clear mission:
to build something honest, transparent, and different.

This industry can be beautiful, but let's not pretend it is always perfect. Rare plants are living things. They stress, they decline, they die, they surprise us, and sometimes they break our hearts a little. Behind every perfect leaf online, there is often a lot of trial, patience, problem-solving, and occasionally, complete chaos.

I have no interest in shady business, unrealistic promises, or pretending that everything is flawless. I believe in being open about how things work, what can go wrong, and what it actually takes to grow, cut them like a mad person, import, acclimate, sell, and care for rare plants.

Over the past year, plant.ess has grown into more than a shop. It has become a community of collectors who care about rare genetics, unusual colours, honest information, and plants that feel truly special.

And I could not have done this without you.

To my loyal customers who have supported me, trusted me, ordered from me, shared my posts, joined the drops, asked questions, cheered me on, and stayed with me through this first year: thank you. Truly.

This is still only the beginning.

I have no plans to slow down, play small, or stay where I am. We are building this together, and from here on out, it is full speed ahead.

I have no interest in shady business, unrealistic promises, or pretending that everything is flawless.
