Anthurium 'Guna Yala' × RVDP (Variegated)
★ Birthday Anthurium · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted specimens. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact plant you receive.
Anthurium 'Guna Yala' × RVDP. Two dark papillilaminum-line velvets crossed — Guna Yala's elongated, inky blade meeting RVDP's red-veined depth — with variegation already showing on the newest leaf.
The cross
'Guna Yala' is a dark velvet form of Anthurium papillilaminum from the Guna Yala highlands of Panama — known for elongated, narrow-lobed leaves, inky velvet colour and red undersides. RVDP, 'Red Vein Dark Phoenix' (Siam Flora), is a papillilaminum-variegata × 'Ace of Spades' hybrid with deep maroon-black velvet, red veins and variegation in its genetics.
Both sit in the papillilaminum line, so the cross runs dark, velvet and elongated — with red-toned veining and the variegation RVDP carries. On this plant the newest leaf is already pushing with visible variegation. Seed-grown and one of a kind; variegated velvet is more delicate and leans on its green to grow.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect — never direct, which marks the velvet and scorches the variegation.
- Water: Lightly and evenly moist — never wet — letting the surface just dry between waterings. Keep water off the velvet.
- Humidity: 65%+. Velvet anthuriums, and variegated ones especially, brown at the edges in dry air.
- Mix: Airy, chunky epiphytic mix — bark, perlite and charcoal — fast-draining.
- Warmth: 20–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: Steady — variegated velvet leans on its green, so don't rush it. New leaves emerge dark and harden over a couple of weeks.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
