Anthurium 'Black Venom' × 'Blue Papi' Variegated
★ Birthday Anthurium · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted specimens. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact plant you receive.
Anthurium 'Black Venom' × 'Blue Papi'. Two dark papillilaminum heavyweights crossed — near-black velvet with a blue undertone, and visible variegation across every leaf on this plant.
The cross
'Black Venom' is a variegated papillilaminum hybrid known for very dark, almost black, glossy leaves with a wrinkled, wavy texture and creamy-to-pale variegation. 'Blue Papi' (Blue Papillilaminum) is a select dark form of papillilaminum, prized for its blue pigmentation, velvet finish, clean veining and a bright yellow-orange sinus.
Both sit deep in the papillilaminum line, so the cross runs dark and velvet — broad, heart-shaped blades, near-black with a blue cast, clean veins, and the variegation both parents can throw. Each seedling from this cross is its own; this one carries visible variegation across all four leaves.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect — never direct, which marks the velvet and scorches the variegation.
- Water: Lightly and evenly moist — never wet — letting the surface just dry between waterings. Keep water off the velvet leaves.
- Humidity: 65%+. High, stable humidity keeps the variegated leaves clean.
- Mix: Airy, chunky epiphytic mix — bark, perlite and charcoal — fast-draining.
- Warmth: 20–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: Steady — variegated velvet leans on its green, so don't rush it. New leaves emerge dark and harden over a couple of weeks.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
