Alocasia 'Sedenii' Pink
★ Birthday Girl · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted girls. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact specimen you receive.
Alocasia 'Sedenii' Pink. A historic cuprea × longiloba hybrid — large, metallic near-black arrow leaves with prominent veins and a purple reverse — here carrying anthocyanin pink across the blade.
The cultivar
'Sedenii' is one of the oldest Alocasia hybrids in cultivation — raised at Veitch Nurseries and awarded in 1869, a cross of Alocasia cuprea and Alocasia longiloba 'Lowii'. It takes the metallic, near-blackish sheen and pronounced veining from cuprea, and the elongated arrow blade with a dark purple reverse from longiloba. Upright and compact, with rare deep-purple spathes when it blooms.
The 'Pink' is the anthocyanin-variegated form — irregular blush and rose sectors over that dark metallic blade, different on every leaf. Pigment-based and inherent to the line, so relatively stable rather than reverting; it deepens with bright light and varies in extent leaf to leaf.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect to filtered, and generous — light holds the pink and the metallic depth. Direct sun scorches the variegation.
- Water: Evenly moist, never soggy. Let the top of the mix dry slightly before watering; rot-prone with wet feet.
- Humidity: 60%+. Variegated edges brown fast in dry air.
- Mix: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix — airy at the roots.
- Warmth: 18–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: A moderate, upright grower — slows in low light or cool temps.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
