Alocasia 'Sarian' Aurea
★ Birthday Girl · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted girls. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact specimen you receive.
Alocasia 'Sarian' Aurea. The golden-variegated form of the zebrina × Frydek hybrid — pointed arrow leaves with creamy veins on mottled, zebra-marked petioles — here lit with golden aurea sectoring.
The cultivar
'Sarian' is an interspecific hybrid of Alocasia zebrina and Alocasia micholitziana ('Frydek'), named after Filipino agricultural journalist Zac B. Sarian. It takes the tall, mottled, zebra-striped petioles from zebrina and the pointed, creamy-veined dark arrow leaf from Frydek, with slightly serrated margins. A fast, eventually large grower that builds a stalk as it matures.
The 'Aurea' is the golden-variegated form — irregular yellow-to-gold sectors over the dark green, different on every leaf. The gold is chlorophyll-reduced, so heavily variegated leaves are more delicate and lean on the green to carry the plant. The striped petioles and full character sharpen as the plant matures, so a young one is still coming into itself.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect to filtered, and generous — Sarian loves light, and it holds the gold. Keep direct sun off the pale sectors.
- Water: Keep mostly moist; let the top third dry between waterings. No waterlogging — it rots fast, and the aurea compounds it.
- Humidity: 60%+. Variegated edges brown fast in dry air.
- Mix: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix — airy at the roots.
- Warmth: 18–28°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C; cool pushes dormancy.
- Pace: A fast grower once established — striped petioles and full size come with maturity.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
