Alocasia 'Ninja' Albo
★ Birthday Girl · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted girls. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact specimen you receive.
Alocasia reginula 'Ninja' Albo. The albo form of the darkest jewel — compact, velvet, near-black rounded leaves with silver veins and the cultivar's signature double margin — here carrying white variegation.
The cultivar
'Ninja' is a cultivar of Alocasia reginula, close kin to 'Black Velvet' but darker and more sculpted — rounder, matte velvet blades with pale silver veins in embossed relief, and the telltale double marginal vein tracing each leaf. It stays compact and corm-forming, leaves held tight above a short base. Introduced to the market around 2020.
The albo is true white sectoring — clean cream-white marbling and splashes over the dark velvet, different on every leaf, and known to throw soft pink under strong light. Because white tissue carries no chlorophyll, those sectors are more delicate, and the velvet surface marks easily — this is a jewel for careful hands.
This specimen
- Stage: juvenile
- Leaves: 2
- Pot: 5cm

- Notes: Acclimated and ready to ship
One specimen. Photographed as received. No restock.
Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect — never direct, which marks the velvet and scorches the white. Good light keeps it compact.
- Water: Evenly moist with a slight dry-down between waterings. Reginula rots at the corm fast with wet feet, and albo compounds it. Keep water off the velvet.
- Humidity: 60%+. White sectors and leaf edges crisp fast in dry air.
- Mix: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix — airy around the corm.
- Warmth: 18–29°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C; cool or low light pushes dormancy.
- Pace: Compact and slow, corm-forming — leaves build density around the base rather than height.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
