Alocasia longiloba 'Black Satun' Stardust
★ Birthday Girl · Featured Specimen
One of this season's highlighted girls. Hand-selected, photographed as the exact specimen you receive.
Alocasia longiloba 'Black Satun' Stardust. The galaxy form of the Thai 'Black Satun' — deep, near-black wing-shaped blades dusted with silver-to-cream speckling, scattered like a starry sky, over bold pale veins.
The cultivar
'Black Satun' is a Thai-bred selection in the Alocasia longiloba group, named for the southern province. It is prized for its sculptural, near-black, glossy 'stingray' leaf — tapered and wing-shaped, with pronounced veins carried on sturdy upright petioles. Compact in habit but imposing in presence.
The 'Stardust' is the dusted-variegation form: fine silvery-white to creamy-gold speckling scattered irregularly across the dark blade — the 'galaxy' look the name points to — alongside its bold pale veins. The speckling is unpredictable and tends to intensify as leaves mature; no two read alike.

Care, briefly
- Light: Bright indirect, and generous — light holds the contrast and the dusting. Direct sun scorches the pale speckling.
- Water: Keep lightly and consistently moist but never soggy — let the top layer dry slightly, then water through. Longiloba rots fast with wet feet.
- Humidity: 60%+. Heavily variegated edges brown fast in dry air.
- Mix: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix — airy at the roots.
- Warmth: 20–27°C. No cold draughts, nothing below 15°C.
- Pace: A rhythmic grower — the longiloba group pauses between flushes. Gaps are normal, not a fault.

One window,three days.
This piece has lived on our shelves long enough to know its rhythm — rooted, photographed, and firm-checked before it joined the Birthday Collection. Year 1 isn't a sale, it's an anniversary — and the plants here were held back from the regular shelves for exactly this window.
One plant. One owner. When she's gone, she's gone.
Rare. Selected. Limited. The way it should be — and the way it always is here.
